Corporate Profiles of Shame: Aiding the Iranian Dictatorship
Providing the government of Iran with modern technologies enables the current dictatorship to repress its citizens through inciting fear and through illegal detention, torture, and execution. Yet some Western corporations openly flout international trade sanctions against Iran, while others’ technologies form the backbone of Iran’s formidable telecommunications infrastructure despite their ostensible adherence to the sanctions.
This blog hosts a set of Corporate Profiles of Shame – multinational corporations who support the regime in Iran either directly or indirectly through services or material assets that they supply to the government of Iran.
The events following the disputed elections in Iran on June 12 2009 have focused the world’s attention on Iran. We have seen the desire of the people to be rid of the current regime, and we have seen the regime’s willingness to assault, illegally detain, torture, and execute their citizens who simply ask for their right to a voice and a vote.
These corporations must be held accountable. Those who trade with Iran under this dictatorship are directly or indirectly enabling the government of Iran to illegally detain, torture, and execute their citizens. It is unacceptable by any standard, and it must stop.
Each profiled corporation has its own page, listed to the right under Profiles of Shame. Corporations that have supported the people of Iran’s right to a voice can also be found listed to the right under Corporate Rightdoing. We have pages that explain what trade sanctions are, why circumventing the sanctions hurts everyone, and what you can do to help.
Disclaimer: Where evidence of corporate trade with Iran is documented in the public domain, appropriate references to objective sources will be provided. However, some information provided in these profiles is derived from personal testimony of witnesses and is not externally verifiable. All such entries will be indicated with an asterisk (*) and a corresponding note on their profile page. This project is collaborative, draws on the work of multiple concerned contributors, and serves as a repository of information for other concerned citizens around the world. Additional contributions are welcome.
In honor and memory of all of those who have suffered and continue to suffer under repressive governments that fail to respect the rights and voices of their people.
